Remote diagnosis and control of wheelchair electrical drive systems

A new Diagnostic and Protective System (DPS) suitable for wheelchair electrical drive applications has been prepared. Such a system is able to perform both monitoring and long-distance transmission of key signals that are used as pre-fault and fault indicators. The system, moreover, may detect several anomalous working conditions by means of reliable diagnosis procedures and carries out actions to protect the electrical drive and to drive the disabled people in safe conditions. In the dairy industry, road milk tankers transport milk from one location to another. The milk inside the tanker needs to be kept between 3–5 °C to ensure that the quality of milk is always preserved. The tanker needs to be kept running at all time with the case of sufficient energy being continuously supplied to the cooling unit. The source of energy normally used for this application is a typical generator which needs fuel to operate. This is expensive and is not environmentally friendly. Positioning system for assembly and manufacturing tasks

The paper presents a two-axis positioning system using asynchronous motors as actuation devices. Theuse of asynchronous motors reduces the overall cost of the system, while providing actuating torques superior to the ones provided by stepping motors. The system is controlled by mean of a programmable logic controller (PLC) and two voltage-frequency inverters fitted with motion control cards. In contrasts to a stepping motor system, which works in open loop mode, the proposed system uses closed loop control on each axis. The motion loop is closed by means of an incremental encoder.

Performances of the Fault Decoupling Device when unbalanced and multiple faults occur on distribution systems.

Nowadays industrial processes are largely based on electronic devices such as programmable logic controllers and adjustable speed drives. Consequently, industrial equipments became less tolerant towards power supply disturbances. Voltage dips due to faults are surely among the worst disturbances for industrial equipments. A paper machine can be affected by disturbances of only 10% voltage drop lasting for 100 ms. A voltage dip of 75% (of the nominal voltage) with a duration shorter than 100 ms results in material loss in the range of thousands of US Dollars for semiconductors industry [1].
